A dead man's hand is on the trigger.
In a dacha outside Moscow, CIA operative Elias Thorne finishes the job and walks away. Clean. Quiet. Done.
Then the Russian president's heart stops, and five cargo ships in the North Atlantic wake up.
They carry an autonomous nuclear deterrent built for one purpose: to strike back when no one is left to give the order. No codes. No override. The only way to stop it is the voice of the scientist who built it, spoken aboard the master ship.
Dr. Elena Voronin has spent three years in Russia's most brutal prison.
Thorne has seventy-two hours to break her out and get her aboard before the ships launch. But someone on his team is a mole, and the trail leads to the one person he never thought to suspect.
Thorne started this countdown. To stop it, he has to trust the woman who designed the end of the world.

The Seam — the second Elias Thorne novel is in the works. Join the reader list to hear first.
Laurian Luis has spent his working life figuring out how systems fail.
He started as a mechanic, where he learned that every breakdown has a cause if you're willing to look for it. From there he moved into professional security, then law enforcement. The causes were human now and the stakes were higher. He worked the street for several years before moving to corrections, where he got a close look at the good ol' boy network and how an institution closes ranks to protect its own. He turned in his star and never looked back.
After that came 20 years as a senior systems administrator at a major bank, keeping the machinery of money running and watching what happens when it doesn't.
Along the way he took college courses, went through police academies and taught himself the rest. He learned to notice what other people miss and to ask the questions nobody wants asked. Those habits drive his fiction.
A Northern California native raised in Portuguese culture, Laurian now lives in the Phenix City, Alabama area and writes full-time. His thrillers draw on what he's seen on the street, behind the walls, in the server room and under the hood: the report that gets buried, the alarm everyone learned to ignore, and the one person who decides to pull the thread anyway.
0347 ZULU: Legacy of the Dead is his first novel and the opening of the Elias Thorne series. He is now at work on the second, The Seam.
